14th-Sep-2008 11:14 am - Finally On the Bandwagon
I don't know what finally jolted me out of my political lethargy but yesterday I finally really got on the Obama/Biden bandwagon. Local headquarters have been contacted to see how we (my sister got on the wagon with me) can help, Yard signs and window signs (for my apartment) have been procured, contributions have been made, t-shirts and bumperstickers have been ordered, contribution website has been set up, everybody I know in RL and their brother has been emailed and nephew has been registered to vote. That was mostly what I did with my day yesterday.

The most important part was registering my nephew to vote. Even if his only reason he'll give for voting for Obama is because he plays basketball.

Now I just need an icon. :D

So the thing is, I believe in voting. Like hardcore. I've never missed an election, even when i lived in canada for 3 years.

But no matter how much you all fangirl Obama...

No matter how much my old roommie, former kennedy staffer, currently selling her soul as a lobbyist, rah rahs Obama...she nearly had me convinced the other day but...

I'm still not comfortable voting for him.

I'm not comfortable voting for Hillary either.

The fact is, neither of these candidates truly represent what I want. End of story.

I'm sure I've been in this position before. I just can't remember at the moment.

So I don't know what the fuck to do come election day. I don't know how i'm supposed to stand there and check off a person i don't support.

It's some how different in the final election, because then it isn't so much about the candidate for me...then it will be voting for the party i want in office...whoever happens to be representing that party.

But the primary is supposed to be about voting for the person you want the most. And I just don't want either of these two anything like the most.

I know this view won't be popular on my flist. I've read your posts. I know you all wooohooo Obama. But sorry, I'm just not. And honestly, the fact that either of these two people will wind up being the person i have to vote for is just a little bit fucking depressing to me.

ETA: Since I will apparently have lots of choices, even if they are no longer officially running. I think I will vote with my gut. Some will call it throwing my vote away. I call it trying my best to make my voice heard.
